Acoustic Memoir by Deniz Reno

Deniz Reno’s fourth EP record, was released this time last year as a collection of six soul/pop genre songs, a sort of diary entry from the last ten years of her life, recorded only with vocals and an acoustic guitar.

It’s a stripped-down soulful departure from her usual fare in the more upbeat world of electronic and house music in which she wears the hats of both sought after vocalist, songwriter and producer.

Always seeking to balance her time as a musician and a visual artist, on November 5th Deniz collaborated with Tropical Nomad Canggu on the opening of ‘INK•ARNATIONS’, her first solo art exhibition in Indonesia, consisting of a series of 17 ink drawings inspired by life on the island.

The show went on display for three weeks throughout the G20 officially closing on November 23rd. It on the heels of a successful fundraising exhibit curated by the artist for the Baturulangun Batuan Children’s Art School this past September, a way for her to give back to the local community and encourage budding young talent.

It was at the children’s art exhibit she curated where we first met and I was impressed by the authenticity with which this young woman lives her adventurous life

I’m delighted to present my interview with Deniz Reno:

Deniz, you are a multifaceted artist. You create visual art, are a singer-songwriter, a DJ and write your blog, The Fearless Nomad.

Does juggling all these responsibilities ever overwhelm you, or is that exactly what you’re about?

It often can be overwhelming;I’m not going to lie. Visual arts and music always go hand in hand in my world and so I have to constantly juggle both. They feed different parts of me so I cannot choose one over the other. But to be honest I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love expressing myself through the visual medium and sound. I love learning about the world and helping tell other people’s stories as well as my own. That’s what I’m about.

How do you manage to balance it all?

Hard work. Dedication. I try to choose my priorities wisely because there are only so many hours in the day. It doesn’t always work. But when it does it’s extraordinary living that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Inspiration drives me.

What has been the most crucial choice in your entire life?

To do the inner work required for me to thrive as a human being. To understand who I am, make friends with my angels and demons, light and shadow. To choose to live a life I am proud of and excited about.

Can you share anything about your next project?

I have a few things on the runway right now. I’m releasing a lot of new music next year, both on my own label Taksu Records and others. I’m working on a music video project for one of the releases that’s likely coming out in the spring. Working on putting together an international touring schedule for next year and finally publishing my book, which has been sitting ready in manuscript form for 4 years now.

Thank you Deniz for your Interview, I wish you all the best!

Those who have met Deniz are well aware of her adventurous and professional drive.
