In the midst of azure waters and lush landscapes, a fascination for Bali wine is quietly blooming. Join us on a journey beyond the ordinary, where vineyards flourish, and each grape carries the unique essence of this enchanting island.  We had the chance to follow the winemaker Giacomo during harvest season in the Buleleng Regency of Bali, here’s what the expert has to share.

The concept of Terroir

It’s the relationship between the vine plant and its microclimate as well as all the mineral characteristics of the soil where it is cultivated. This is highly important in order to obtain something unique that can’t be redone elsewhere and at the same time reflects the characteristics of the region. These unique conditions bestow a distinct character upon the grapes, laying the foundation for wines that tell a story as complex and intriguing as the island itself.

Nature’s Tests

Volcanic soil, relentless sun, and the ever-present tropical humidity – these were the hurdles that Isola Wines faced in their quest for the ideal grape.

Each season became a canvas where lessons were painted in soil and sunbeams. Some varieties succumbed to the intensity of Bali’s climate, while others, resilient and determined, signalled a step closer to viticultural victory.

Fine-Tuning Care

As the vines began to take root, the art of care took center stage. Balancing the elements required a delicate touch – cut too little, and the plant will grow mostly leaves, cut too much and it won’t be giving enough of the sought after fruit

Isola Wines, with their understanding of nuances, approached the care of their wine grape plants with a blend of scientific precision and intuitive finesse.

Harmony in the Soil

Isola Wine’s commitment to sustainability reaches deep into the roots. Here, the journey of organic farming becomes a symphony, with the soil as the conductor and the vines as the musicians. Isola Wine, leads the way in nurturing the land through the art of organic, local fertilizers.

Reviving Tradition

In the sun-drenched vineyards of North Bali, winemakers have rediscovered the Pergola form as the ideal method for cultivating wine grapes. This ancient technique provides a perfect balance, offering shelter from the intense sun while allowing vines to thrive in the tropical climate. A fusion of tradition and innovation, Pergola viticulture emerges as the key to exceptional grape growth in North Bali’s unique conditions.
