Minikino Film Week
Since 2015, the festival has been dedicated to celebrating and appreciating the art of short films, advocating cultural diversity through film, and fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas between filmmakers. Serving as a vital platform for introducing Indonesian culture to the global audience while also inspiring local filmmakers to grow and collaborate with filmmakers from other countries.
More than 275 short films and VR films from a total of 69 countries around the world will be screened for the whole nine days of the festival, 15-23 September 2023.
Film genres include fiction, documentaries, animation, and experimental, presented as part of 33 International programs and 3 inclusive cinema programs with Bahasa Indonesia audio descriptions and subtitles. These are arranged thematically through Minikino’s unique concept, YOUR HEALTHY DOSE OF SHORT FILMS.
Besides the Short Film Festival, a Short Film Market for industry meetings with creative players occurs in the same period (18-22 September 2023). The market promotes networking and aims to stimulate the development of the short film economic value in Indonesia by building integration with international networks in short film production and distribution.
Minikino strives to support equality and remain thoughtful of stories told by under-represented groups in the film industry. This year’s official selection is composed of works by men (49.76%), women (35.27%), and non-binary (3.38%), with a further (11.59%) who prefer not to disclose gender making up the directors and writers. Awareness is important as a foundation to be inspired by these stories.
