The Art of Alchemy

But if you want to take any old manifestation practice to the next level? Well, that’s easy: you alchemize.  

And that’s precisely what Patricia Dash did with 1111 ALCHEMY over the past two years; transforming the unique villas from hum-drum cottages in some of Bali’s premiere neighborhoods to truly masterful works of luxe, livable art.  

Columbian-born, American-made, Bali-claimed Dash is unlike most Beings you’ll ever meet.  

And truly, with her bohemian-glam aesthetic, sultry vibe and generous nature, it becomes clear to anyone who meets this powerhouse woman that she’s playing the life game at a different level than most people.  

The same can be said of the spaces themselves which are remarkable, next-level reflections of the woman who dreamed and made them real: for as soon as anyone steps foot onto any of the five properties in either Ubud or Uluwatu, a version of the following usually falls from their awe-struck lips: ‘what is this place?’ 

It’s hard to describe staying at 1111 ALCHEMY in its entirety (which is partly the point: it’s meant to be experienced), but imagine a combination of the following and you’re halfway there: think Bali meets the inside of an Anthropologie store meets Alice in Wonderland.

To further paint a picture, the words dreamy, lush, and inviting also come to mind. It’s like stepping into another world altogether.  

A world where dragonflies abound, bathtubs float in the center of fish ponds, and beautifully designed jungle kitchens hold everything you thought you could ever possibly need for your Bali home-away-from-home. But should you for some reason feel like something’s missing, all you need to do is ask: for Patricia Dash has a knack for making dreams become realities. For turning somethings from nothings.  

That’s one of the definitions of what a real-life ‘alchemist’ is after all though, is it not? A Being who transforms metal to gold – or rather as Dash so eloquently translates it:

An imperfect beautiful Being who instinctively uses their pain to create something exquisite. 

Patricia Dash is truly the quintessence of that. And her pandemic-born 1111 ALCHEMY villas vibrate palpably with the magnetic, radiant energy that she so boldly and intuitively lives. 

It’s nothing short of magic.  

But even magic has its humble origins too, and it wasn’t from a wizard’s wand that Dash did what she did. No: it took patience, resilience, dedication and of course: Love.  

At the end of 2019, Dash had officially fallen in love with Bali, decided to make it home and took over the Airbnb lease in Ubud on what other’s might consider ‘an intuitive whim.’  However she had a vision and was ready to execute it, taking the already lucrative villas to the next level.  

That is until the pandemic struck and everything Dash thought she was going to do had to be scrapped: with about 80% of the economy coming from tourism alone, the near-entirety of The Island of the Gods’ infrastructure collapsed, and the lives of the kind, hard-working Balinese people along with it. 

“No one knew when the pandemic was going to end,” says Dash, “but I knew that it would have to eventually, and somehow it would be ok. I saw what was happening to the Balinese people and it was important for me to create jobs, to give back to the community here, so that’s where I started.” 

And that’s exactly what happened.

Dash created jobs.

She began working with local artisans and crafts-people from around the island, searching tirelessly for just the right things to transform her spaces from ideas to real-life, alchemical manifestations. 

Over the span of the next two years, Dash took time to renovate each of the homes, focusing solely on one space at a time. As each home was completed, Dash would then live in it and make any necessary upgrades before moving on to renovate the next home, renting the just-completed one out to longer-term resident digital nomads along the way. 

To say the process was a labour of love would be an understatement. While she of course had her amazing team of Balinese workers, Dash led the multi-faceted project alone. Well, mostly, that is: 

“Ganesh was with me always,”

she says with a reverent sparkle in her eye. And no doubt Ganesh was, for he’s prominently displayed in each of the now completed and thriving properties in gratitude for all obstacles he helped remove during the process.  

And this beautiful dance of co-creation and celebration between Dash and the playful elephant-headed god continues with each innovative iteration made: from The Alchemist Experience Cafe which serves delicious, home cooked meals from the best local farmers on the island, to the decadently romantic candlelit spa experiences – even professional (Dash-led) photography shoots with a picturesque, aquamarine Bingin Beach in the background for those guests desiring an extra-special commemoration of their visit.  

Beautifully, of course. 

So what’s on the horizon for 1111 ALCHEMY?

“I guess you’ll have to wait and see,” Dash coyly smiles. But the words ’Alchemist-in-Residence’ and ‘full-sensory immersive experiences’ have already left her lips, leaving us fascinatingly curious for whatever gorgeous alchemizations are surely born of the unstoppable Patricia Dash.
