Parkour Bali
Have you heard about Parkour Bali?
Parkour is a form of physical training to create a unique alternative path, overcome physical and mental obstacles, and move from one point to another in the most efficient way possible.
“Jump higher if the barriers are big! Those who do not jump will never fly.”
“Be strong to be useful” is the mantra of Parkour Bali, which means to strengthen yourself, your mind, and your body, and use it for helping you and others.
The Parkour Community in Bali brings together enthusiastic young people who train together once a week in the Parks of Denpasar in Renon. Ferry is 22 years old and a member of the Parkour Bali community. He has been training for 6 years, and of course he was inspired by David Belle, the inventor of Parkour, when he saw the action movie Gettogangz – Banlieu 13.
“I was really amazed by his moves, and that’s why I started to do Parkour here in Bali.”
How regularly do you practise Parkour?
Before the pandemic we usually practice twice a week – on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. But now it’s restricted by the government, that’s why we train once a week – every Sunday morning.
What should you keep in mind when practising Parkour, and how do you train?
First of all we must warm up, stretch, and practise balance. In addition to physical training we must train our mind and imagination, which means not limiting ourselves, because anything is possible.
Is this sport also beneficial to your daily life?
It definitely is. Every obstacle we overcome is a success for both the body and the mind. This boosts my self-esteem and self-awareness. I am a lot more confident, disciplined, physically and mentally fit.
