“It was the most expensive room I’d ever paid for, and it was a hospital room.”

I’d never have allowed myself to spend that much on a hotel room. But suddenly, when it’s about life and health, you don’t think twice. That moment taught me something people often say: our lives are priceless. But why wait until things get tough to invest in what truly makes us feel alive?

I realized that every time I spend on myself, be it time, energy, or money – it’s never a waste; it’s an investment. Taking care of ourselves brings so much positivity into our lives:

  • Better immunity: Self-care strengthens our health and resilience.
  • Stress relief: Stress is the number one cause of illness. Self-care helps us manage it.
  • New opportunities: Positive energy attracts positive experiences – the right people, chances, and adventures.

What does it mean to invest in yourself?

Here are some simple ways to start right now:

  • Schedule time for yourself as you would for any important meeting – and keep it.
  • Don’t skip your yoga or gym session just because “something else came up.”
  • Treat yourself to a massage, acupuncture, or healing sessions – and savor every moment.
  • Book that dream trip you’ve been putting off. Life’s too short for “someday.”
  • Try a hobby you’ve always wanted to explore, like music or dance.
  • Set aside time each week to do whatever feels good in that moment.

Whatever brings you joy – go for it! It’s your time, and your well-being matters.

Facing doubts and guilt – why self-care often feels selfish

Does taking time for ourselves feel selfish or bring up guilt?
