A Step Back in Time

Have you ever wondered how Bali manages its bustling traffic? Let’s rewind to a time when Bali was still a hidden gem, and public transportation was quite simple. Think of becaks (rickshaws) and dokars (small horse-drawn carts) weaving through narrow streets. Back then, the island was a tranquil paradise, with roads serving just a handful of vehicles. Life moved at a slower pace, and Bali’s magic was in the small moments of everyday life.

The Groovy ’70s

Fast forward to the 1970s, when Bali transformed from a hidden treasure to a global sensation. The opening of Ngurah Rai International Airport marked the island’s debut on the world tourism stage.

Because of the growing number of visitors, the island began buzzing with life. Bemos, those colorful three-wheeled minivans, became a common sight. They brought a unique energy to the streets, shuttling both locals and tourists to their destinations. Buses and traditional taxis followed suit, heralding a new era of modern transportation.
