Growing up in Banjar Penaka, Tampaksiring, a village renowned for its carving arts, Balinese Artist Made Bayak was fascinated by the artists in his community and learned by observing them. In addition to his Balinese cultural heritage, he studied American and European art history at the university, which he blended with his Balinese roots to create his unique artwork. 

Heritage with Social Issues

Made Bayak draws his inspiration from his surroundings, community, family, and the unique Balinese culture, which has rich music, dance, folklore, and artistic heritage. His art is not limited to any specific medium; instead, he chooses whatever medium best allows him to express his ideas. He creates artworks that depict environmental and human rights issues that impact Bali and the world. 

 

Made Bayak’s favourite project is his “Plasticology” series

He began this in 2010 to address the problem of plastic waste and its environmental impact. Plasticology is not just about art but also about raising awareness of environmental issues and how they affect our daily lives. Through the series, the artist Made Bayak conducts workshops, seminars, and collaborative projects with local communities to help them understand the gravity of the environmental issue and what they can do to reduce their plastic usage.

Made Bayak’s art has a powerful message to raise awareness about the environmental and social issues affecting Bali and the world. His work draws attention to subjects often ignored, such as the impact of plastic waste on the environment and the need to protect human rights.

Artist Made Bayak faces numerous challenges as an artist, including creating artwork, bringing it to the audience, and receiving recognition and economic returns for his work. However, he remains focused on his passion for creating and sharing his work.
