Mudfish

Mudfish is targeting children in local communities with the conviction that when provided with knowledge about plastic pollution and waste management, they will be inspired to take responsibility for their actions. Mudfish also offer practical solutions, including reusable bottles, tote bags, water filter dispensers, and rubbish bins.

Indonesia, the world’s second-largest plastic polluter, does not have a proper waste management system, with many Indonesians unaware of the plastic pollution problem. As a result, illegal dumping and burning are common practices.

“Without education and practical solutions, we will be faced with a never-ending clean-up.”

The Mudfish team comprises Indonesians who speak the local language, understand the local context, and know what messages work best. In a nutshell, “we walk their walk and talk their talk.”

Our community-wide approach seeks to gain the involvement of everyone. We hold meetings with parents to engage them in their children’s education and reinforce our lessons at home. We coordinate with local village councils to build effective, long-lasting relationships.

“We aim to inspire a positive behavioral shift to achieve a pollution-free Indonesia.”

How Mudfish Reaches Children & Communities:

  1. Workshops For Children

mudfishOur educational program provides a holistic view in an engaging and creative format, including instructional lessons, quizzes, arts and crafts activities (coloring, and designing tote bags), video screenings, and area clean-ups. We share information explaining the dangers of single-use plastics, plastic pollution, how badly it affects our environment and health, and how to separate and dispose of plastic waste.

2. Educator Training Programs

  • We teach young Indonesian adults how to run Mudfish No Plastic workshops. Once trained, the participants are qualified to run our workshops independently and assigned to a two-person team.

  • Mudfish No Plastic Curriculum Program instructs schoolteachers on how to use our curriculum to educate their students about the problem of plastic pollution and actions they can take.

Their collaboration in South Kalimantan implemented the Mudfish No Plastic environmental and plastic pollution curriculum in every school in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency.

3. Village Clean-Ups

mudfish

We engage with children and local communities to raise awareness by staging monthly community clean-up parades using a giant fish trash container with music, singing, and dancing.

4. Women’s Hygiene Workshops

mudfish

This outreach program educates and empowers Indonesian women about health issues regarding feminine hygiene. The workshops motivate the women to “say no to single-use plastics” and to make environmentally better choices, including reusable menstrual pads and diapers.

5. Mudfish No Plastic Playground

mudfish

Providing a free afterschool curricular resource for young people to learn about single-use plastic, pollution, waste management, and the environment. In addition, English classes and arts & crafts activities help educate and empower the children to be curious about life and to dream big.

100% of your donations go towards our efforts and supplies. We also need and welcome any marketing specialists or fundraisers, volunteer educators, teachers, and simply people who are good at working with children to assist in our workshops. Please do get in touch.
